A few weeks after our CEO delivered the demo day pitch at Techstars Atlanta, an accelerator program for providing entrepreneurs with the resources and network to build meaningful enterprise technology, we made the move to users mobile devices by launching our mobile app.
As an agric-tech platform, this move is a response to the feedback we got from our farm sponsors who want to easily log into their dashboard and monitor farm progress; it is also to prepare for the future as more users access our platform from their mobile devices.
The mobile app campaign first launched on social media with the hashtag #WhatIsInYourPocket. This went viral on Twitter shortly afterwards and different media outlets, both local and international, picked up on it:
It was finally revealed some days into the campaign that Farmcrowdy planned to fit a farm into people’s pocket in form of its mobile app.
Here is what our Co-founder and CEO, Onyeka Akumah had to say about the mobile app launch:
“We have launched the Farmcrowdy app to provide an accessible, real-time platform for people on the go, who do not want to miss out on empowering their own communities. In the past month alone, we have witnessed over 500 farm units of poultry – 25,000 chicks – sell out in a few hours to engage farmers who would have found it difficult accessing loans in the banks; so it’s super fast-paced. People are equally excited about creating impact in the lives of our farmers while earning a decent return. Nigeria is a mobile-first society and we had feedback from our sponsors who said they wanted improved access to our farms. They spoke, we listened, and we have now built a platform that suits Nigerians’ preferred means of doing business. – a mobile app. We expect that with this move, we would continue to stay at forefront of innovation in Agritech across Nigeria and scale our activities into more states in Nigeria while attracting more farm followers and sponsors to engage our farmers”.
The Farmcrowdy mobile app officially launched on November 14th alongside celebrations for our first year anniversary at Four Points by Sheraton, Lagos.
