Can you believe it?!
It seems like it was just yesterday we kicked off our journey of empowering rural farmers and now, three years have already passed by. Well, time does fly when you are making an impact on the lives of people.
This past year has been an amazing one for us. From signing a partnership with the Oyo state government towards empowering 50,000 farmers to expanding operations to Niger state and Sokoto states with over 1,000 farmers, it’s been an eventful year. Keep reading for a rundown of everything that happened in the last one year.
We raised an additional seed funding of $1 million from Cox Enterprises, Techstars and Ajayi Solutions to continue building our award-winning model while expanding across Nigeria to empower rural farmers.
We also launched the Farmcrowdy 2.0. Some of the new features on the site were; an all-new dashboard, more payment options for local and international sponsors, and easier sign-in/login options.
Another exciting milestone for us was the launch of Farmgate Africa, our first portfolio company . Farmgate Africa was focused on providing major processors and international buyers the opportunity to purchase commodities directly from local farming clusters. We also created Agricsquare, a community of Agriculture enthusiasts. In July 2019, we unified Farmgate Africa and Agricsquare with Farmcrowdy to provide an all-inclusive platform and create a seamless experience for our sponsors.
This opened up new farm opportunities like Beef Processing sponsorship alongside our existing opportunities. This expanded our reach in the agriculture value chain and expanded our impact on rural farmers.
As we grew, we realized that we could apply our winning business model to other sectors so we launched Crowdyest, with the goal of contributing to the achievement of the SDGs. Therefore, Farmcrowdy became the first featured portfolio company in Crowdyvest.
Our partnership with Best Foods Fresh Farms was announced this year. Best Foods is one of Nigeria’s most respected agribusiness companies which has been in operation for over 16 years. The partnership will improve the the livestock value chain across Nigeria. It will also improve the quality of meat production and processing in alignment with international standards. This will make lead it to becoming the best source of processed meat in Nigeria.
One of the milestones we are most excited about is our agro partnership with Oyo State Government. In August 2019, the Governor of Oyo State, Engr Oluseyi Makinde unveiled a partnership with Farmcrowdy. The purpose of the partnership is to empower 50,000 Oyo State rural farmers. We are the first digital agriculture platform in Nigeria to achieve a partnership of this magnitude.
In October 2019, the Lagos State Government introduced a Veterinary Health Certificate for Trade of Meat, as a requirement for major food vendors to ensure that the animals slaughtered and sold for consumption are under hygienic conditions. We are proud holders of the Veterinary Health Certificate for Trade of Meat. We currently process and supply over 44 healthy cattle daily to several offtakers across Lagos.
This was also our year of expansion as our operations spread across states such as Sokoto, Adamawa, and Nasarawa. We currently operate in 16 out of the 36 states in Nigeria. Our numbers have also expanded in other areas. We have empowered 25,800 + farmers and worked on 19,000+ acres of land. We have also reared 2.8 million chickens on over 80,000 farm sponsorships.
We won a lot of Prestigious awards in the past year such as:
- We won our first global recognition and the United Nations “Global Disruptive Innovation in Agriculture” award in Italy.
- The Next Bulls Award by the Nigerian Stock Exchange and BusinessDay.
- Farmcrowdy was presented with the award for Africa’s Innovative Business of the Year 2019 by the British Awards for African Development.
- Business Day Nigeria published a special report on the Top 100 Fastest Growing SMEs in Nigeria and we were ranked 3rd in the Agricultural industry.
- Farmcrowdy was included as one of Africa’s most inspiring businesses in the London Stock Exchange Group’s ‘Companies to Inspire Africa 2019 report.’

From birthdays to weddings to customer service week, we have had a lot to celebrate this year. This year, three of our Farmcrowdites tied the knot and we also welcomed five babies into our family.
We also celebrated World Food Day with children of Victoria Island Nursery and Primary School, Eti Osa LGA among many others.
We celebrate our growth over these past three years. Farmcrowdy is grateful for our farmers, farm sponsors, followers, subscribers, and everyone who supports us. You all made this happen and we look forward to hitting more milestones by the time we reach our fourth year.
Happy Anniversary Farmcrowdy!
